Progress Update

6/16/2014

Thank you to everyone who has been sending me emails.  It reminds me that I really should be doing more regular updates and it’s encouraging to know that other people want to build one themselves.  Before I forget, I’ve been asked to speak about the tiny house at a monthly house concert series called the piano salon on Friday July 4th at 8:30pm… location TBA

Tiny house progress has been going well.  I’ve been working with an architectural designer on the final structural designs and have a mechanical and structural engineer lined up for the approval process. Evergreen Brick Works have been awesome and offered to let me use their site for the construction process between August until end of September. It will be used as an exhibit afterward to display smaller living and sustainable design.  It will be right beside a farmers market, and has great accessibility so I will let you know once the build starts.

Some of the details that I’ve been working on include:
-  Building permit. Everything requires a building permit! So even though this is a non-permanent structure I'm going through the process of getting a building permit.
-  Deciding on the slope of the roof has a surprising number of aspects that need to be considered
-  Because of the minimum requirements of rooms, it will be mostly open concept.  And because of height requirements, there is no loft area in the actual plans.
- It requires a surprising number of skilled people to put together a house (tiny or otherwise), so as that part of my budget grows, I’m looking for other areas to minimize expense.
- Location - I've had a number of people offer to let me use their land outside of the city.  I'm leaving details out for now until its a little more solidified.

That’s it for now.  I hope to have another update soon.
